Lift me up.

Tiremesù is the original name of the world’s best-loved dessert, in the dialect of the town that made it. It means exactly what it says.

01 · The nametireme sùTreviso dialect · “lift me up”

Long before the world learned to say tiramisù, the people of Treviso said tireme sù: lift me up. The dessert took the name because that is what it did. A spoon of cream, coffee and cocoa, made in a kitchen without an oven, put back what the day had taken. The name was Italianised in the late twentieth century. We kept the original.

Innovation in most organizations is a thing that happens elsewhere: in a lab that had to be built, run by people who had to be hired, on a budget that no longer exists. Tiremesù is built on the opposite idea. Like the dessert, it needs no oven. It is meant to leave a person, a team and an organization better than it found them.

Origin noteTiramisù comes from Treviso in the Veneto. The birthplace of the recognized recipe is the restaurant Le Beccherie, where it appeared on the menu in 1972 after the owner’s family made it as a restorative for a new mother in the 1950s. Other legends exist, as they do for every famous dish. We take the name from the dialect and the meaning from the town.
